PART IGetting to know the skill
CHAPTER 1

What the Aquarino skill is

The Aquarino skill is the bridge between Alexa and your equipment. With it you check on the aquarium and command it by speaking — without picking up the phone, without opening an app, without drying your hands to unlock a screen.

It is particularly useful in the moments when your hands are busy: during maintenance, while feeding the animals, or when you walk past the tank and want to know the temperature without interrupting what you are doing.

1.1 What it does

  • Turns outlets on and off, one at a time or all at once;
  • Checks the state of the outlets, the sensors and the dosing pumps;
  • Triggers feeding and ends it early, if you want;
  • Fires one-off doses on the dosing pumps;
  • Switches the system mode between automatic and emergency;
  • Turns the audible alert on and off on the equipment;
  • Switches between units, for anyone who has more than one Aquarino.

1.2 What it does not do

Being clear about the limits avoids frustration:

  • It does not configure the equipment. Creating automation rules, calibrating sensors and dosing pumps, adjusting schedules and changing limits remain jobs for the app or the Local Manager.
  • It does not show graphs or history — voice is good for the now, not for the time series.
  • It does not replace the equipment alerts. Out-of-range sensor warnings keep arriving by e-mail, push or Telegram, according to your settings.
